Open House Day with Danyil Popzafirov

On 25 February, President's Club Bulgaria organized an "Open House Day," with guests including the 9-year-old chess master Danyil Popzafirov, one of his coaches and chairwoman of chess club Elit — Veneta Petkova — and his father Hristo Popzafirov. Club members and guests had the opportunity to meet them and, above all, to learn about part of Danyil's biography and achievements. The young athlete is ranked in the top 16 in Europe and 33rd in the world rankings for his age group up to 9 years.

Guests and members had the opportunity to play chess with Dani in a simultaneous exhibition, in which more than 10 people took part. The young master was exceptionally quick; flying from table to table, he prompted his opponents to bring out the very best of what they were capable of.

After the session, one of the members had the opportunity to play a blindfold demonstration game with Dani.

Danyil is now preparing for and will take part in the European School Chess Championship in classical chess and the World Rapid and Blitz Championship. One of the club's principal goals is to support young children with outstanding talent, and therefore we wish Dani every success, as we will follow with interest the development of one of the world's most talented future grandmasters.
